Web sites responsible for anonymous comments

The European Court of Human Rights has declared that websites can be held accountable for the anonymous comments posted on them.
The case involves the new site Delfi, which posted a negative article on a ferry company in 2006; the article attracted some angry comments and the ferry company found some of them defamatory and sued.
According to Delfi's policies, the individuals were liable for their own comments but the ferry company couldn't sue them since they were anonymous.
The court said the ruling was reasonable since "the news portal received commercial benefit from the comments being made."
Anti-censorship activists disagree because this ruling would make it hard for any site to allow anonymous comments.
