Twitter announces new restrictions for apps
August 18 , 2012
Twitter has announced new restrictions that discourage independent software developers from creating Twitter apps.
The move comes as the microblogging site sets out to regulate how users access its service.
The decision is not expected to impact current Twitter users but it is likely to push new users towards Twitter's own apps rather than popular third-party clients like Tweetbot.
Under the new rules, independent software developers will only be allowed to have a maximum of 100,000 users.
Existing apps with more than 100,000 users can double their user base before Twitter imposes a limit on the numbers of users.
