Microsoft registers drop in profits

  • Software giant Microsoft has reported a drop in profits which is being attributed to job cuts and the purchase of the Nokia smartphone unit this year.

    In the three months ending September, Microsoft made $4.5 billion, which is 13% lower from last year.

    Expenses related to "integrations and restructuring" cost $1.1 billion, the company said.  

    Chief executive Satya Nadella said in a statement that the firm is being "positioned for future growth".
