  • More than £1 billion was spent on downloaded films, music and games in the United Kingdom in 2012, the highest annual total recorded so far.

Sales rose by 11.4 percent from 2011, which means that a quarter of the entertainment market is now digital.

More than half of the figure accounted for video games, which increased by 8 percent to £552 million.

Downloaded films were up by 20 percent while music increased by 15 percent.

Sales of physical CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray and video games dropped by 17.6 percent in 2011 even though they still made up most of the market.
