Digital books up by 54% in 2011

Digital book sales rose by 54 percent last year and are estimated to be worth $394 million to the publishing industry.
In 2007, the market for e-books, downloads and online subscriptions was worth $120 million, according to figures released by the Publishers’ Association (PA).
Since then digital content accounts for 8 percent of the total value of book sales, up from 5 percent in 2010.
Physical books sales dropped by 5 percent to $4.9 billion, according to the PA Statistical Yearbook.
