Wimbledon: Venus Williams defeated as Novak Djokovic starts with a victory

  • Novak Djokovic kick started his defence of his men's title at Wimbledon with a dominant victory over former world number one Juan Carlos Ferrero.

The top-seeded Djokovic opened play on the famed Centre Court with a 6-3, 6-3, 6-1 defeat of the former French Open champion from Spain.

Six-time champion Roger Federer had an even easier time with a 6-1, 6-1, 6-1 win over Spain's Albert Ramos.

Meanwhile, five-time women's champion Venus Williams was unexpectedly ousted in the first round for the first time since making her debut at the All England Club in 1997.
