Ron Clarke, Australian running legend, dies aged 78

Ron Clarke, an Australian legend who set 17 racing world records in the fifties and sixties, has died at the age of 78.
He died after a brief illness, reports said.
Clarke, who later became the mayor of Gold Coast, was given the honor of lighting the flame to open the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne.
Despite his running achievements, an Olympic Gold eluded him. From 2004 to 2012 he was the mayor of Gold Coast.
