Olympic ice dancing is not a sport
February 19 , 2014
Ice dancing is a difficult thing to do and despite requiring flawless technique, it's not considered to be a sport.
The most powerful evidence to support this is the fact that it requires a subjective judge to pick a winner. Meryl Davis and Charlie White were the chosen winners on Monday but even if they danced with perfection, their fate was in the hands of someone else instead of their own.
Sports on the other hand are physical and competitive and ice dancing doesn't include competing against another team but against a judge instead. The difficulty of a sport doesn't matter but the deciding factors in determining whether or not something is a sport are rules and objective scoring.
