US: Singer-songwriter Lesley Gore dies of lung cancer

  • American singer and songwriter Lesley Gore, best known for her 1963 chart-topper ‘It’s My Party’, passed away at the age of 68.

She was just 16 when the song became a huge sensation, capturing the teenage rebellious mood of the era. Her other hits included ‘Judy’s Turn to Cry’ and ‘You Don’t Own Me’.

Gore’s partner Lois Sasson said she died of lung cancer at a New York hospital.
