Jon Stewart to step down as host of Comedy Central's Daily Show

  • Jon Stewart is stepping down as host of The Daily Show, one of Comedy Central’s top-billed programs, the US network has said.

    The network’s president Michele Ganeless said in a statement that Stewart’s “comedic brilliance” was “second to none”, and described him as a “comic genius”.

    Stewart has been hosting the show since 1999, and will continue to do so till later this year. 

    He will be the second major figure of the comedy genre to leave the network after Stephen Colbert, who went to CBS.
