India's legendary cartoonist RK Laxman dies

  • RK Laxman, arguably India’s best known newspaper cartoonist, died on Monday at the age of 94. According to media reports, he was admitted at a hospital in Pune city and suffered multiple-organ failure.  

    Laxman’s daily cartoon titled "You said it" appeared in the Times of India for over five decades. One of his most iconic creations was a character called the “Common Man”. In his long career as a cartoonist, he often lampooned political leaders, including prime ministers. One of Laxman’s brothers was the renowned novelist RK Narayan.
