Hollywood movies under-represent certain ethnic groups
August 6 , 2014
A study has revealed that movies in Hollywood under-represent ethnic groups that are non-white.
For instance, in last year’s blockbusters, Hispanic actors played under 5% speaking parts though they constitute 16% of the country’s population.
Around 4,000 characters in 100 top-grossing movies of 2013 were considered in the report by the University of Southern California.
The report said that “[a]dding diversity to the director's chair may influence what we see on screen” .
