British actor John Hurt dies at 77

  • British actor Sir John Hurt, who portrayed Ollivander in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and won Oscar nominations for the Elephant Man died at the age of 77 back at his home in Norfolk.

    The actor was battling with pancreatic cancer. He acted in close to 200 movies and TV shows during his career which also including "Alien," "The Elephant Man" and "Midnight Express."

    His widow, Anwen Hurt said that it will be 'a strange world' without him, whose death has prompted an wave of grief among the showbiz industry. Director Mel Brooks and J K Rowling were among those who paid tribute.

    One of the most iconic actors of British film industry, the actor was well known for roles including Quentin Crisp in The Naked Civil Servant, the title role in The Elephant Man and wand merchant Mr Ollivander in the Harry Potter films.
