Seattle may have $15 minimum wage
May 3 , 2014
Seattle may end up with the highest minimum wage in the United States. Reports suggest that a new proposal unveiled by mayor Ed Murray would increase it to $15 per hour but it's not a done deal as of yet.
"I think that this is a historic moment for the city of Seattle," he said. "We're going to decrease the poverty rate."
The Seattle Times notes that businesses with over 500 employees that don't offer any health insurance will have to start paying $15 an hour in the shortest turnaround time - three years. The move came one day after Senate Republicans disapproved of a proposal to raise the wage to $10.10.
