No global trade deal as India sticks to its demands

With attempts to stitch together a global trade deal falling apart after India insisted on concessions such as food subsidies and freedom to stockpile food for developing countries, the very future of the World Trade Organization (WTO) is clouded in uncertainty.
The 160 member nations failed to reach a consensus over the demands put forward by India. “We have not been able to find a solution that would allow us to bridge that gap,” WTO director general Roberto Azevêdo said.
