Kids should know if their college will make them poor
April 1 , 2014
A lot of professors don't like it when colleges are ranked on the basis of the amount earned by students after graduation. "Saying that a mineral engineer makes twice what an artist does, and therefore this particular art school isn't worth it, that just seems absurd," a psychology professor said. "They choose to pay for training anyway. Is the art school making them poorer?"
Jordan Weissmann of Slate thinks differently and said it is important to inform students about their future. "There's nothing absurd about holding colleges accountable for what their students earn," he writes. It's true that engineers make more than art graduates but that's not an excuse for schools to be rip-offs and "the really absurd thing ... is that we still have to battle for such basic information."
