Emissions scandal: Volkswagen halts sales of some cars in Australia
October 3 , 2015
Carmaker Volkswagen has suspended the sale of some diesel car models in Australia amid the emissions scandal.
The firm has halted the sale of affected cars that are fitted with the 1.6 or 2-liter EA189 engines.
The suspension will stay in place “until the emission issues are addressed”, the company said in a statement.
There are about 40,000 vehicles on Australian road fitted with the controversial diesel engines. Across the world, 11 million Volkswagen cars and more than 2 million Audis are believed to have the software that manipulates emissions controls.
