The tax rate can be defined as the percentage at which an organization or a person is taxed. The total tax rate is the total amount of taxes that business have to pay after accounting for exemptions as well as deductions as a share of commercial profit. This is excluding taxes that are withheld or collected and remitted to tax authorities. The total tax rate varies from country to country. While in some nations the total tax rate as percentage of commercial profits may be huge in others it may be minimal.

According to a 2016 data published by the World Bank, Comoros has the highest total tax rate as percentage of commercial profits. According to the data, the total tax rate in the nation stood at a whopping 216.5 percent. Coming at the second spot was the South American nation of Argentina with a total tax rate of 106 percent. In both Bolivia and Eritrea, the total tax rate stood at 83.7 percent.

Nations where the total tax rate stood between 60 and 80 percent in 2016 were Brazil, China, Algeria, Venezuela, Italy, India, France, Tunisia, Colombia, and a few other.

In a couple of countries such as Sri Lanka, Mexico, Austria, Greece, Sweden, Germany, Japan, and others, the total tax rate as percentage of profit stood between 40 and 60 percent. Romania, Vietnam, Ethiopia, Portugal, Norway, Finland, Kenya, Albania, Mozambique, Iceland, South Africa, and some other nations had a total tax rate as percentage of commercial profits between 20 and 40 percent.

Meanwhile nations standing at the bottom of the table with the lowest total tax rates as percentage of commercial profit were Singapore, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Georgia, Kuwait, etc. Here the total tax rate was less than 20 percent.
