Zawahiri announces creation of al-Qaeda in South Asia
September 4 , 2014
Ayman al-Zawahiri, the leader of the al-Qaeda, has announced the formation of an Indian wing of the militant group to carry out jihad in South Asia.
Speaking in a 55-minute video that was posted online, Zawahari called upon the “umma” (Muslim nation) to “wage jihad” against enemies and revive the caliphate.
Some anti-terrorism experts believe that the timing of the video is significant as the Isis has emerged as the bigger magnet for Islamist militants in the last few months.
Zawahiri said the creation of al-Qaeda in the subcontinent would come as good news for Muslims in places like Assam, Gujarat, Kashmir, Burma, and Bangladesh.
