"Yellow Vest" Marches Turn Violent Again in Paris

  • Today, the “yellow vest” marches started peacefully in Paris. However, they turned violent during the afternoon. A section of the protesters started throwing stones at the riot police, who blocked bridges over the Seine. They also torched motorbikes as well as upmarket Boulevard Saint Germain. The protesters protested against the high cost of living as well as French President Emmanuel Macron’s perceived indifference. To disperse the crowd and prevent the protesters from reaching the National Assembly, the police officers fired tear gas. Reports say the protesters wanted to inject a new leash of momentum in their agitation after the movement weakened over the holidays. Emmanuel Macron’s government has hardened its stance on the protests and called the protesters as agitators. He went on to say that the protesters are trying to overthrow the government.
