Voting for Russia's Presidential Election Opens, Putin Hopeful for Fourth Term

  • Voting for Russia's presidential election opened on Saturday in the Russian far-east at 20:00 GMT. Voting will open in the capital, Moscow, 9 hours later. With the incumbent President Vladimir Putin seeking a fourth term in the Kremlin, reports say there are hardly any heavyweight opposition candidate left in the race to challenge the clout of Putin. Though there are 7 other candidates in the fray, the most famous opposition figure in Russia Alexei Navalny was prohibited from filing candidature for the President’s post following a fraud conviction. Alexei later said that it was politically motivated.
