US President Trump Exerts His Veto Power over Border Emergency Declaration
March 16 , 2019
President Donald Trump has revoked his national emergency declaration at the US-Mexico border by vetoing a recent measure from the US Congress. Trump’s move comes after lawmakers in the US Congress (which includes 12 Republicans) passed a rejection resolution on Thursday rebuking the national emergency announced by the US President for building a border wall along US-Mexico border. During the on-going Trump presidency, this is the first veto used by the US President. While signing the veto on Friday, Trump said that as president protecting the country is his highest priority. After this veto, the US Congress will now need to pass a resolution with a majority two-thirds support to override the veto.
