US President Threatens to Declare National Emergency for US-Mexico Border Wall

  • After the Democrats refused to finance the US-Mexico border wall, the US President Donald Trump has threatened to declare a national emergency. This means that the US President can go ahead with building his coveted border wall without the requirement of getting approval from the US Congress. The partial government shutdown has entered its third week since December 22, 2018, when the shutdown actually started. Reports say around 800,000 federal workers are without pay due to the partial government shutdown.  To resolve the impasse over the financing of the US-Mexico border wall, the officials of US Congress and White House will meet late on Saturday. When asked about the on-going shutdown, Trump said: “I don't call it a shutdown, I call it doing what you have to do for the benefit and safety of our country.”
