US House Democrats Subpoena US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo for Ukraine Documents
September 28 , 2019
The Democrats in the US House of Representatives have subpoenaed the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Friday for documents regarding the contact that was made by the government with the Ukrainian government. It is seen as the Democratic move towards impeachment inquiry against the US President Donald Trump, who according to a whistleblower complaint solicited a political favor from Ukraine’s newly elected President Volodymyr Zelensky by launching a probe against the business dealings of the 2020 Democratic Presidential candidate and former Vice President Joe Biden’s son. The US President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign announced running a “Biden corruption” advert on TVs and websites that would highlight the politics played by the Democrats with the impeachment investigation. The House Foreign Affairs, Intelligence and Oversight Committees has also asked 5 State Department officials including former envoy to Ukraine familiar with the matter for depositions over the next two weeks.
