Three people were killed on Tuesday, August 26, when a United Nations helicopter was allegedly shot down by rebels in South Sudan.
The Mi-8 cargo aircraft came down in the rural belt near Bentiu, reports said. The crew of the helicopter were reported to be Russian nationals.
Last week, Peter Gadet, a local rebel chief, had warned the United Nations to stop flying over his area. According to some reports, Gadet’s men may have targeted the helicopter.
