UN Security Council unanimously endorses Syrian peace plan
December 19 , 2015
The United Nations (UN) Security Council has unanimously backed a resolution that outlines a peace process in conflict-hit Syria.
The agreement reached by the 15-member council endorses talks between Syria’s government and the opposition in January, together with a ceasefire.
According to the UN, the Syrian conflict has claimed more than 250,000 lives and displaced millions of people.
However, the resolution is silent on the future role of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
