UN Report says North Korea Continues Exporting even after the US, UN, and EU Sanctions

  • UN report by a panel of experts (submitted to the UN Security Council) said North Korea has earned around $200 million in 2017 by exporting prohibited commodities from January to September 2017. This is a direct breach of the international sanction agreed upon by all the countries in United Nations. The report said DPRK has used “a combination of multiple evasion techniques, routes and deceptive tactics” for exporting coal to China, Russia, Vietnam, South Korea, and Malaysia. The UN report also notes that investigation is carried out against many multinational oil companies (unnamed in the report) for allegedly supplying petroleum to North Korea after the US, UN and EU imposed sanction on Pyongyang over carrying out its nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
