UN passes new sanctions on North Korea
September 12 , 2017
The United Nations has imposed new sanctions on North Korea. According to media reports, as per the fresh sanctions, a ceiling has been imposed on North Korea's imports of crude oil. A ban has also been imposed on the country's textile exports. This is the ninth package of measures that have been imposed on North Korea by the UN Security Council since 2006. The measures have been imposed due to North Korea's missile and nuclear tests. The new sanctions were much to the relief of US diplomats who were expecting Chinese abstention. As per the final resolution, a ban was imposed on oil condensates to North Korea, refined petroleum exports were capped at 2m barrels a year, and international exports of crude oil to the country were maintained at existing levels.
