UN extends Yemen Peace Talks by a Week

  • UN extends Yemen Peace Talks by a Week

United Nations envoy to Yemen, Ould Cheikh Ahmed, said that UN has decided to extend talks by a week after major disagreement surfaced between the elected government of Yemen and the Houthi militia foes. With Houthi rebels along with their allies General People's Congress announcing forming political council unilaterally for ruling the country, delegation of the internationally recognised government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi threatened to pull out of the talks. Till now over 6,400 people have died and more than 2.5 million displaced due to the 16-month old conflict. Ould Cheikh Ahmed hoped that the extended time will progress “path towards peace”.
