UN chief announces independent probe into Gaza conflict
October 22 , 2014
UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon is setting up an independent investigation into the attacks on United Nations facilities during the recent Gaza conflict.
The 50-day war killed more than 2,100 people, most of them Palestinian civilians; 73 Israelis died in the war.
Ban Ki-moon said the probe would examine the most serious strikes against UN sites that killed innocent people. Reports that some UN facilities were used by the militant group Hamas to store weapons will also be looked into, he said.
