UN announces Yemen ceasefire effective 10th April
March 24 , 2016
A special UN envoy announced ceasefire across Yemen effective 10th April in a fresh bid to restore normalcy in the Arab nation deeply ingrained by violence since September 2014. This will be followed by peace talks on April 18, in Kuwait. This discussion will be in accordance to the United Nations Security Council Resolution, which states that the rebels must withdraw from seized territories and disarm. Over 6000 people have been killed, with almost 50% being civilians, since a Saudi-led coalition launched air attacks to oust the Houthi rebels who had taken control over the capital city of Sanaa.
