Ukrainians have Started Voting in Crucial Parliamentary Election on Sunday

  • In a snap parliamentary election (3 months ahead of schedule), the Ukrainians have started voting on Sunday. The comedian-turned-novice-politician Volodymyr Zelenskiy (who is also the incumbent President of Ukraine) is in the focus as he seeks to consolidate his power. Currently, the 41 year-old Zelenskiy shares power with the lawmakers who have their loyalty with the predecessor of Zelenskiy. While the opinion polls predict that Zelenskiy is leading the polls, it is still not clear whether his party will win a majority out of the total 424 seats in the parliament. Many experts say that he will get a broader mandate so that he could carry out the momentum of his ambitious reforms, which he has been doing since the beginning of his presidency. After casting his vote, Volodymyr Zelenskiy said that he would consider abolishing the law that provided immunity to lawmakers from prosecution.
