Ukraine conflict: Merkel, Hollande to meet Putin in Moscow
February 6 , 2015
German chancellor Angela Merkel and the French president Francois Hollande will hold crucial talks in Moscow in a bid to end the escalating conflict in eastern Ukraine.
The diplomatic activity, which includes the two leaders’ meeting with Russian president Vladimir Putin, comes after a new peace proposal was presented in Kiev and indications by the US that it was open to the idea of sending arms to the Ukrainian government in fighting the pro-Russian rebels.
Around 5,400 people have been killed in the conflict in Ukraine and more than a million have fled their homes.
