Ukraine conflict: Key summit stretches through the night
February 12 , 2015
Ukraine’s president Petro Poroshenko and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin met for several hours in Belarus as the summit to secure a breakthrough in Ukraine stretched through the night.
Before the Minsk talks began, Poroshenko emphasized the importance of achieving a ceasefire in eastern Ukraine, where the fighting between government forces and pro-Russia rebels has surged in recent weeks.
The efforts at securing a peace deal are being led by France’s president Francois Hollande and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
