UK government signals flexibility on migrant plan

  • The British government has indicated that it is prepared to amend a proposal to impose a four-year ban on EU migrants who claim in-work benefits.

This would allow prime minister David Cameron to campaign with “all my heart and soul” to keep the UK in the EU.

The European Commission described the proposed ban as “highly problematic”. UK’s Europe minister David Lidington said the government would be happy to consider other proposals from member states of the EU.
