Two new organisms found deep in ocean cannot be classified

  • Scientists have been unable to classify two mushroom-shaped organisms that were found deep in the ocean near Australia's coast.

The creatures cannot be placed in any of the existing phyla, reports said. Called Dendrogramma, they have an outer skin and a stomach inside besides jelly-like layers.

It is possible that they are linked to life forms that lived hundreds of millions of years ago, but are now extinct, researchers say.
