Turkey: Scores arrested after protesters clash with police in Istanbul
May 2 , 2015
Police have detained scores of left-wing activists in Turkey after clashes in Istanbul during May Day protests left 24 people injured.
Some protesters set off fireworks and threw stones close to Taksim Square. Police used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the demonstrators.
The country’s parliament passed a law in March, which gives police greater power to quell protests. According to the government, Taksim Square won’t be open for “illegal” protests.
