Trump Refuses to Compromise on US-Mexico Border Wall
January 6 , 2019
The US President Donald Trump has refused to compromise on his demand for US$5.6 billion for erecting the US-Mexico border wall. While the Democrats refused to back the US$5.6 billion fund for the wall by calling it immoral, Mick Mulvaney (the new chief of staff) said that he expects the partial US federal government shutdown to continue longer. Trump put the ball in the Democrats’ court by saying “The shutdown could end tomorrow or go on a long time. It really depends on the Democrats.” He went on to repeat his earlier threat of declaring a national emergency for bypassing the US Congress to approve funds for his US-Mexico wall. Trump said he’ll decide upon declaring an emergency “depending on what happens in the next few days”.
