Tropical cyclone Gita: Tonga declares state of emergency

Tonga, which is bracing for the Tropical Cyclone Gita, has declared a state of emergency. The cyclone has already caused widespread damage in Samoa and American Samoa is now bearing down on the island nation of Tonga. As per media reports, the tropical cyclone was likely to hit the island nation around 8 pm local time. People were instructed by the evacuation centers to remain indoors by 6 pm. In the coming hours, Gita is likely to intensify into a category five storm. Later in the week, Tropical Cyclone Gita will head towards Vanuatu, Fiji, and New Caledonia.
