October 1 , 2014
At least 12 people died and more than 45 were injured when two passenger trains collided in north India’s Uttar Pradesh state.
The mishap occurred close to Gorakhpur station, which is around 167 miles from Lucknow, the state capital.
According to some reports, the Gorakhpur-bound Krishak Express slammed into the Barauni Express.
Train accidents are not uncommon on India’s vast railway network. More than 20 people were killed in a train mishap in Uttar Pradesh in May.
