Over 100 dead in torrential rain in Sri Lanka

  • Several days of torrential rains have claimed at least 101 lives in Sri Lanka. However, with the rains finally receding, rescuers are searching for people who may have been engulfed by landslides. Meanwhile, authorities are trying to manage thousands of people who have been displaced by the rains. According to media reports, at least 111,900 people are currently staying at temporary shelters. The Sri Lankan Red Cross said that 47 bodies have been retrieved from two landslide hit areas, while 180 people are still missing.
