Three killed, one million evacuated as typhoon Hagupit batters Philippines

  • Three people were reportedly killed and more than a million have been evacuated as typhoon Hagupit, a category three storm, battered the Philippines over the weekend, bringing landslides and uprooting houses in the central islands of the country.

However, the havoc caused by typhoon Haiyan, which killed an estimated 7,000 people in November 2013, was not repeated this year.

Better preparedness and quicker evacuation are part of the reasons for the lower casualties, aid agencies say.
