Syrian rebels look to launch attacks from Jordan

  • Syrian rebels are seeking to launch attacks against President Bashar al-Assad’s regime from Jordan, according to a report by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

Syrian rebels have asked to use Jordan the way they use Turkey, as a base to strike back at the Syrian army.

Jordan's King Abdullah II has voiced his support for the rebels but has also spoken out against foreign intervention.

Activists estimate around 20,000 people have died since the uprising against the Syrian government began last March.

According to the UN High Commission for Refugees, some 1,000 Syrians cross the border into Jordan every day.
