Syria: Russia vetoes chemical attacks investigation
November 17 , 2017
A UN Security Council resolution that would have extended an international inquiry into chemical weapons attacks that took place in conflict-ridden Syria has been vetoed by Russia. Since the conflict began, Russia has used its veto powers for the 10th time infavor of Syria, which is its ally. The Russian action was heavily criticized by Nikki Haley, the US ambassador to the UN, on the grounds that Russia was undermining the UN's ability to prevent future chemical attacks. However, the Russian ambassador has refuted the criticism.
