Suriname President Convicted by a Military Court of Murder for 1982 Executions

  • President Desi Bouterse has been convicted by a Suriname court on Friday for the execution of 15 opponents who tried to seize political power in the country in 1982. The military court hasn’t ordered his arrest, the opposition parties have started demanding his stepping down. Bouterse is currently on his official tour to China. The National Democratic Party’s Vice President has told media that the Suriname President is expected to return to the country by skipping a planned trip to Cuba.
