Super typhoon makes landfall in south China

After hitting the Philippines, Typhoon Rammasun headed with greater intensity towards south China, making a landfall on the islands of Hainan today (Friday).
Meteorological authorities in China have classified it as a super typhoon, with wind speeds of 150 mph or higher.
Officials have issued the highest ‘red’ typhoon warning, the first time this alert has been raised in 2014. After passing over northern Hainan and Leizhou, the storm is expected to move in a north-westerly direction.
