Egypt’s government has declared a state of emergency in northern and central parts of Sinai peninsula after 30 soldiers were killed and 29 injured in a deadly car bombing on Friday.
The attack was carried out by a suicide bomber who ran his vehicle, packed with explosives, into a military checkpoint.
The emergency will last for three months, officials said. The Rafah border crossing with Gaza will also be closed, Egypt has decided.
