Spying row: Germany asks senior US intelligence official to leave country
July 11 , 2014
In a new low for US-Germany diplomatic relations, Germany has asked a senior American intelligence official to leave the country.
The move comes after a second German national was caught spying for the US secret services.
German media reports described the official, who was asked to leave as a CIA “chief of station.”
A miffed German chancellor, Angela Merkel said that spying on friends and allies was “a waste of energy" in the 21st century.
