Spanish PM may Derail Theresa May's Brexit Hopes on Gibraltar Standoff

  • Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said during a trip to Cuba that his country needs a written commitment from the UK about the future of Gibraltar otherwise he’ll block an agreement Brexit. Sánchez went on to say that the EU summit on Sunday could be called off till an agreement is reached with the United Kingdom regarding the fate of Gibraltar. Reports say British PM Theresa May is all set to meet President of European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker and President of European Council Donald Tusk in Brussels to hold Brexit talks. The separate meetings will take place before the European leaders meet on Sunday. Reports say the new Brexit draft will be endorsed by the UK PM along with 27 other EU countries. However, British PM Theresa May’s hopes of signing off a Brexit deal with the EU may be thwarted if Spanish PM holds his ground.
