South Africa's Nelson Mandela in hospital
December 9 , 2012
Former South African president Nelson Mandela was admitted to hospital in the capital Pretoria on Saturday to undergo tests.
The office of President Jacob Zuma said 94-year-old Mandela was doing well, adding there was "no cause for alarm".
Mandela spent more than 20 years in prison under the apartheid regime.
He was elected as South Africa's first black president in 1994 and received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993.
Mandela has rarely appeared in public since 2004, when he retired from public life.
Last January, he was treated for a chest infection and a year later underwent a procedure for an abdominal problem.
